palamides GmbH's Smartflat Technology, marketed as "Flatbind" by Bubu AG, gains momentum
Environmentally Friendly Layflat Binding Method Starts Successfully
Renningen, Germany, March 24, 2022 - palamides GmbH, a leading provider of innovative print finishing solutions, is proud to announce the successful launch of the environmentally friendly layflat binding method. Marketed under the label "Flatbind" by Bubu AG, the smartflat technology has garnered significant attention for its efficiency and sustainable approach to bookbinding using water-based cold glue.
The integration of palamides' smartliner240, a compact and cutting-edge binding machine, into Bubu AG's production line has exceeded expectations. The decision to invest in this cold glue binder was driven by its ability to produce perfect-bound brochures with exceptional opening properties, which have garnered significant praise from customers. Thomas Freitag, Managing Director of Bubu AG, expressed enthusiasm for the machine's suitability for short print runs, ecological benefits and superior functionality. The resulting flat-bind brochures have become a niche product with remarkable story-telling potential.
Bubu AG primarily utilizes the smartliner240 for binding softcovers in small editions, including standard brochures with a 4x grooved spine. Furthermore, this innovative technology has successfully bound specialty items like the small-format "beer booklet."
"Softcover or hardcover, flat binding ensures that the book, not the reader, comes out flat,” said Freitag. “The top binding is a trendsetter for good functionality with great consideration for our environment. Customers have shown enthusiasm not only for the excellent opening behavior but also for the ecological advantages of Flatbind products.”
The dispersion adhesive used in the Flatbind process is an environmentally friendly water-based hydrosive and does not contain toxic fumes, it provides maximum material efficiency and minimum energy consumption. The sustainable adhesive combined with the unique spine processing of the book block, delivers exceptional flatness to the end products. Additionally, these innovative bound books exhibit enhanced durability and resistance to aging, further solidifying the appeal of the cold glue binding method.
Bubu AG recently produced a "beer booklet" for the Bourquin company, showcasing the impressive serviceability of the bound product. To convince customers of the advantages of Flatbind, Bubu AG relies on the power of perfect patterns. The Flatbind brochure allows interested individuals to witness the benefits firsthand.
Bubu AG, known for its innovative product ideas, consistently strives to introduce new technical possibilities to the market. Flatbind represents the logical continuation of the flat book, which was successfully launched in 2006. As an "early adopter" of new technologies, Bubu AG has created its own label, Flatbind, to support uniqueness in the market and establish a strong presence for the innovative product.
Flatbind is particularly suitable for small and medium-sized print runs of up to 2000 copies, making it ideal for digital printing applications. While primarily used for softcover books, Flatbind also enables the production of hardcover books using ready-made first and last sentences.
With Flatbind, Bubu AG aims to make its customers happy while ensuring profitability. The company's dedication to delivering high-quality and environmentally friendly books with a unique layflat opening behavior remains unwavering.
